HTS Texas Principal Supports AVDA Fundraiser Benefiting Domestic Violence Victims
Date: 8/6/2012

HTS Texas Principal, Mike Donovan, recently served as the chair of fundraising event that benefited Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse’s (AVDA) intervention and prevention services for families trapped in the cycle of domestic violence. HTS Texas is the Texas partner of one of the largest independent commercial HVAC manufacturers' representatives in North America.

AVDA’s inaugural Men with Momentum: Speed & Spirits event was held at Momentum Porsche in Houston, Texas. The “Boys' Night Out” event focused on food and entertainment that men love: swanky cocktails by Cinco Vodka, craft beer, a pig roast, strolling "Spirits Divas", and an outdoor cigar lounge featuring "Cigar Chick" Teresa Merchant who offered suggestions on beer pairings. A silent auction was also held to raise funds for AVDA’s initiatives and services where Auction items were donated by Houston area businesses and one lucky guest won the grand prize opportunity for a “weekend with a Momentum Porsche.”

With the help of Donovan, the HTS Texas team and the local business community, the event helped raise awareness of the fact that nearly 100 Houston women lose their lives each year at the hands of violent men who profess to love them.

“Domestic violence has no place in our community and it is time for men to be a voice for change,” said Donovan. “It was my honor and responsibility on behalf of AVDA to not only raise awareness about the domestic violence epidemic, but to also enlist the support of positive, male role models who value the dynamics of a healthy relationship.”

"Mike is a great fit for AVDA,” said Jackie Pontello, executive director, AVDA. “His professional and civic leadership capabilities embody what we look for in strong, male role models.”

About Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA)

Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA) is a private non-profit (501)(c)(3) organization that has been serving families trapped in the cycle of family violence since 1980. Only AVDA works to break this cycle by intervening with both the victim and the abuser. AVDA operates two direct-service programs unique to Harris County. The Legal Advocacy Program offers free legal representation for adults and children trapped in abusive, intimate-partner or family relationships. The organization’s nationally recognized Battering Intervention and Prevention Program provides specialized psycho-educational counseling that enables batterers to recognize and accept responsibility for and end their abusive behavior.
