Founded in the 1940s, this new 534,000 square foot Texas Children’s Hospital provides West Houston families with top-tier pediatric care at a convenient location.

On this new construction project, the design team was asked to provide an outside air system that allowed for reduced energy costs. One of the proposed solutions was to incorporate 100% outside air handling units with energy recovery to pre-treat outside air using building exhaust. Ultimately, this solution was selected and HTS Texas was chosen to provide three SEMCO EP energy recovery units totaling 90,200 CFM and Danfoss VFD’s.

Incorporating the SEMCO EP energy recovery units reduced energy costs associated with cooling and heating outside air by nearly 50%. The SEMCO desiccant-based energy wheels pre-condition outside air and reduce the chiller load, thereby resulting in a reduced initial cost of the chiller system.
